On June 16, Congresswoman Candace Miller, (MI-10th District) visited our Shelby facility to announce the Silver Alert Grant Program.
The Silver Alert Grant Program Act will provide funding for states to establish or make improvements to their Silver Alert notification systems. Studies have found that as many of 60 percent of patients with Alzheimer's or dementia will wander. This can occur when doing something as simple as walking their dog, or going to the store. Those same statistics also found that if seniors are not found within the first 24 hours, as many as 50 percent will suffer serious injury or death.
The act requires local law enforcement agencies to work with media outlets and transportation officials to alert the public of a missing senior, and how to locate the senior.
"As the population of our country begins to age, we must look to protect and assist the members of the "Greatest Generation" and baby boomers who may be suffering from "senior moments," or more tragically dementia or Alzheimer's," Rep. Miller said.
Premier Health Care salutes Congress for its courage and foresight in
signing this very timely and crucial piece of legislation. We know that
America is a
country with a significant population of aging citizens, citizens who
have given their best to their country and now deserve the best from
their country in return. Senior care isn't just a business; it's a
welcome duty that offers the best of providers the best of rewards.
